We are so excited to be offering all MMA students the chance to take part in a friendly in-house competition, conveniently located at Sackville School in Hildenborough, just opposite the Dojang. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain some competition experience in a familiar environment, where just MMA students will be competing, and students will know all of the instructors. There’s something for everyone, with patterns, sparring and special technique/power. Students will be matched as fairly as possible taking into consideration age, grade, sex, height and/or weight. Students can take part in any of these events, or all of them!
Competition is an extremely valuable tool in many sports, but it is particularly important in martial arts. It gives students a target to aim for that promotes personal development, and allows them to gain a wider perspective of the martial arts journey. Often, students are only really aware of their particular class environment, which is fine in the early stages of learning, but there is so much to learn in martial arts, and many of the lessons are best learned outside of the normal class environment. Students will be anxious/nervous, for example, and they will learn how to deal with these feelings, but more importantly they will have experience of how they dealt with this and be able to offer words of wisdom to their fellow student in the future, which we at Miles Martial Arts consider to be one of the most valuable skills that martial arts allow you to attain. So yes, there will be lots of medals to be won! But it really is the taking part that matters! We encourage all students graded yellow stripe or above to take part. We are very proud of our slogan ‘Go The Distance, Love The Journey’, because we feel it really encapsulates the most important values of martial arts, and competition is a vital part of the process.
